Creative Arts

This term Stage 1 and Stage 2 are participating in a Creative Arts program with Mrs Smart, aimed to broaden their learning experiences in Music. The activities during the music lessons are purposeful and aim to provide students with opportunities to explore various concepts of music by singing, playing, and moving. So far, students in Year 1 have been listening and moving to music, singing songs and playing instruments. Learning the Keyboards and Boom whackers has been a highlight, along with playing games that encourage students to keep the beat when listening to a song. Year 2 and Year 3 are enjoying the challenge of learning to sing songs from different cultures and languages. ‘Inanay ‘is a song that originates from Torres Strait Islanders and is a song in Yorta Yorta, the language of one of the Aboriginal Communities. ‘Siyahamba’ originated in South Africa, and students perform this song while singing and playing Djembe drums and clapping sticks.

This is an exciting time for students at Gundagai Public School, and we look forward to what is to still come. Interest groups have been identified and the prospect of a guitar group, drama club and dance crew are in discussion. Choir will once again be in full swing, and we are looking forward to entertaining and school and in the community. Also, this year Gundagai Public School are pleased to announce that we are presenting a whole school production. Watch this space.
