Our Year 6 students have boldly taken on the NSW Space Discovery Program, joining 15 schools across the state in an exciting journey of innovation, design, and real-world problem solving.
Working in small teams, students were challenged to design a device that could either support astronauts in space or solve a problem here on Earth— by harnessing the power of cutting-edge technologies and materials. The creativity and thinking behind their projects has been truly impressive!
Some of the student innovations include:
- An aeroponics system for growing vegetables in space
- A water supply system designed specifically for astronauts
- An emergency services drone for rapid disaster response
- An unmanned robotic buggy to assist flood victims
Using tools like Makers Empire and Tinkercad, teams created 3D models of their designs and produced informative posters explaining their purpose, design process, and practical benefits.
In Week 7, our students will showcase their work alongside other schools in Phase 1 of the program. They’re looking forward to seeing the innovative ideas from across the state—and proudly sharing their own. Well done, Year 6!
