Our Year 6 students have recently taken part in the NSW Space Discovery Program—an exciting, state-wide initiative encouraging innovation, critical thinking, and real-world problem solving through STEM.
Working in small teams, students were challenged to design a device that could either support astronauts in space or help solve a problem on Earth. Using digital tools like Makers Empire and Tinkercad, each team created 3D models and posters to explain their design process, purpose, and potential benefits.
We’re thrilled to share that one of our teams was selected to present their project to the program’s finalist judging panel. Congratulations to Beau Jones, Norah Lindley, Lily-Rose Mooney and Charlie Shannon, who designed the ARC (Aquatic Robotic Craft)—a remote-operated buggy aimed at supporting flood recovery efforts. The team submitted a video presentation and took part in a live Q&A session with judges, showcasing their innovative thinking and teamwork.
This has been a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore future-focused learning, develop new skills, and engage with big ideas. We are incredibly proud of all our Year 6 students for their enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment throughout the program.
